Pir Hassan Ali Shah
It is a great pleasure for me to introduce myself to you. I believe that I have the requisite skills to succeed in the field of research, with a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) in Accounting and Finance, a Master's Degree in Public Administration, and twenty-two years of experience managing two organizations.
My educational journey started at Aitchison College Lahore (1980–1992), an English-medium semi-government school (https://www.aitchison.edu.pk), from which I completed my secondary school certificate and intermediate school certificate. On November 3, 1886, as an exclusive college for the elite, or princely families, the Lahore Chiefs' College, later called Aitchison College, was inaugurated. Spread over 200 acres, Aitchison College continues to serve as a learning center for the Pakistani aristocracy and has maintained its status as a Chiefs' College; many prominent school graduates have been named to date, including various presidents, prime ministers, ministers of state, chief ministers, prominent businessmen, lawyers, the entertainment industry, landlords, bureaucrats, etc.
I actively participated in all the school activities during my 12-year stay at Aitchison College Lahore from grades 1 to 12, which included both international and national curricula, incomparable recreational facilities, a comprehensive co-curricular program, and several special interest clubs that enhanced my curiosity and social responsibility. The educational method of schools was a knowledge-based approach focusing on discussing ideas through the use of Harkness debate, adjunct faculty programs, and several internal and external competitions in which I excelled. Aitchison, a member of the world's G 30 schools (http://www.g30schools.org), had organized several annual conferences encouraging artistic expression, creative activities, scientific research, debate, and public speaking. The aim was to provide as many opportunities as possible to find enjoyment in cooperative learning. Not only did these characteristics prepare me for success at a top university, but I also learned the basics of self-discipline that underpins successful leadership for a better world.
I chose another popular English medium, Forman Christian College (https://www.fccollege.edu.pk), founded in 1864, for my bachelor studies (1993–95) with a major in mathematics and statistics. In the urban setting of the large metropolis of Lahore, Punjab, Forman Christian College is a non-profit, private higher education institution. Forman Christian College (FCC) is a Pakistani higher education institution formally affiliated with the Christian-Presbyterian faith in an area of 108 acres, officially recognized by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan. FCC is the only member of the Global Liberal Arts Alliance in Pakistan (https://liberalartsalliance.org/about-us/).The FCC provided me with a variety of academic and non-academic facilities and services.
I also had the ability to build my social circle with fellow students and professors, in addition to the skills I acquired such as teamwork, time management, presentation skills, and many others that sooner or later became part of my career network. Two distinguished alumni of the college are the Presidents of Pakistan, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, the Prime Minister of India, the First Chief Justice of Pakistan, the President of the Security Council of the United Nations, several ambassadors, the Chief Ministers, the Attorney General of Pakistan, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan. Dr. Compton performed much of his experiments on cosmic rays as a faculty member at FCC, which contributed to his acceptance of the Nobel Prize for Physics in 1927. There is an equally impressive list of pioneers in the fields of education, law, medicine, the arts, and entertainment. (A Chartered University) Forman Christian College! Let me explore a remarkable culture distinguished by its learning atmosphere, diversity, service quality, and devotion to its ideals of discipline, compassion, fairness, and respect. My final examination was taken by the University of Punjab, Pakistan's oldest university and one of the highest regarding student population. Formed in Lahore in 1882 (http://www.pu.edu.pk, the University of Punjab is Pakistan's largest and oldest seat of higher education. It was the first to be founded in the Muslim-majority region of the Indian Subcontinent.
I turned my attention to acquiring knowledge of accounting and finance after graduation, so I got admission to the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (https://www.icap.org.pk). On July 1, 1961, with the primary objective of regulating the accounting profession in Pakistan, the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP) was founded. ICAP students have contributed to the restructuring and building of institutions by playing a vital role, with many senior members now sitting on the boards of leading public and private sector organizations. As the custodian of the accounting profession in Pakistan, the Institute has progressively developed mechanisms to ensure the profession's transparency, accountability, and good governance. I passed the Foundation Examination (1999), which has helped me achieve excellence in professional competence, add value to companies and the economy, safeguard the public interest, ensure ethical standards, and practice good corporate governance while at the same time understanding the needs of globalization.
I also sought admission to the Pakistan Institute of Public Finance Accountants (http://www.pipfa.org.pk). In 1993, the Pakistan Institute of Public Finance Accountants (PIPFA) was jointly set up by three Pakistani sponsoring bodies, namely the Pakistan Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAP), the Pakistan Institute of Cost and Management Accountants (ICMAP), and the Pakistani Auditor General (AGP). Under Section 42 of the Companies Ordinance, 1984, PIPFA is accredited as a non-profit association. As a full member of the International Federation of Accountants (IFAC), PIPFA has gained global recognition as an organization that provides public accountants in Pakistan with professional excellence. I passed the PIPFA Intermediate Examination (1997–2002), which brought about a dynamic and vibrant shift and made it easier for me to solve any problems with the current Finance and Accounts Education modules.
In 2002, I passed two papers by the Institute of Bankers Pakistan (IBP), which was founded in 1951, intending to contribute to the technical training and development of human resources for Pakistan's banking industry. Constituted in partnership with the Institute of Bankers, UK, to promote the financial and banking sector with a professional workforce, IBP is a non-profit company incorporated under Section 42 of the Companies Act 2017. The IBP Superior Certification Program is a unique product offering that helps students stand out as leaders in the financial sector.
I opted for a Master's degree in Public Administration (1999–2000) at Quaid-i-Azam University. http://qau.edu.pk In July 1967, under the Act of the National Assembly, Quaid-i-Azam University (formerly Islamabad University) was established and started teaching and research programs for Ph.D. and M.Phil. degrees. Gradually and later, however, it was agreed to offer master's, graduate, and now undergraduate programs. The university, for its international reputation, faculty, and programs, attracts a significant number of foreign students, while it provides admission to a measured number of students from all regions of the world as a federal public sector university. It has been able to develop relations with selected universities in Europe, South Asia, and the United States. A reasonable number of faculty members of the university have served at foreign universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, Columbia, Heidelberg, etc., gaining applause and awards such as the Brussels International Peace Prize.
Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) is an English-medium, co-educational Pakistani higher education institution, officially recognized by the Pakistan Higher Education Commission. QAU also provides several academic and non-academic facilities and services to students, including a library, recreational facilities, and administrative services. Since 2015, the university has expanded to become the largest university in Islamabad, with a total enrollment of more than 13,000 students. The university is located on a campus of 1700 acres (or 6.9 square km) in the foothills of Margalla. The courses I studied at Islamabad's Quaid-i-Azam University highlighted up-to-date practices, values, and theories that provide a solid foundation for growth in the business profession. The tasks assigned to me during the course of research gave a practical touch to my experience. QAU is a research-oriented institution committed to academic excellence, fairness, and equity. A master's degree helped me to uphold and cultivate the highest moral and practiced values, logically pursue understanding, be imaginative, and effectively converse to meet a society's promising needs. Information learned during my studies guarantees and helps me pursue my studies with intellectual and professional growth.
I did a Master in Philosophy (MPhil) in the subject of Accounting and Finance (March 2021–March 2023) at Minhaj University Lahore (https://www.mul.edu.pk/english/index.html) that was founded in 1986 by Shaykh-ul-Islam Prof. Dr. Muhammad Tahir-ul-Qadri, patron-in-chief of Minhaj ul Quran International. It is located in a significant place that is easily accessible from all the main areas of the city. Its campuses are situated in the Township and Model Town. Degree-awarding status was granted by the Govt. of Punjab via Act No. XII of 2005. The Higher Education Commission of Pakistan has also recognized Minhaj University as a ‘W3 ranking university. It comprises nine faculties: computer science and information technology, basic sciences and mathematics, economics and management sciences, social sciences and humanities, languages, Shariah and Islamic studies, engineering, allied health sciences, and applied sciences. Faculties have numerous schools and teaching departments. The university also has two centers, including the International Centre of Research in Islamic Economics (ICRIE) and the International Center of Excellence (ICE). It has a purpose-built campus with allied administrative and educational facilities like science laboratories, computer labs, research labs, libraries, hostels, cafeterias, mosques, parking areas, and playgrounds. Programs at the BS, MA, M.Sc., MS, M.Phil., and Ph.D. levels are offered in all the faculties. In a nutshell, Minhaj University generates in students the concept of building up the hallmarks of career formation through both academic and empirical wisdom, vision, and observation to understand what they are going to be. The concept of maturity with purity is a surety of success, thus paving the way to glorious achievements.
On November 19, 2023, I was honored to receive the University Gold Medal Award, Academic Roll of Honor, and Merit Certificate for attaining a CGPA of 3.87 out of 4 in recognition of my outstanding performance during the MPhil Accounting and Finance program at Minhaj University Lahore, Pakistan. This acknowledgement not only reflects my academic prowess but also underscores the university's commitment to maintaining rigorous academic standards. I pursued my education from Grade 1 to a Master in Philosophy in Accounting and Finance (all courses studied in the English language), along with obtaining a Master's in Public Administration from Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad with all courses studied in the English language.
My educational journey spans from Grade 1 to a Master in Philosophy in Accounting and Finance, all completed in the English language. Additionally, I hold a Master's in Public Administration from Quaid-i-Azam University Islamabad, also completed in English. With over two decades of experience in the corporate sector, including roles as a marketing executive and currently as managing director, English has been the official language in all professional communications. I have contributed to academia by publishing three articles in a British journal, one in a US journal, and awaiting approval for one in an Australian journal. Currently, I am actively engaged in writing several more articles. In the coming days, I plan to share more about myself on my website (https://pirhassan.blogspot.com) to provide further details about the different avenues that I continue to explore.
The beginning of my professional career was 2002–2015. I served in a supervisory role and my designation as Marketing Executive during 14 years at Kohinoor Spinning Mills Limited, http://www.kohinoorspinningmills.com, “Head Office” (Chakwal Group), http://www.chakwalgroup.com. I was responsible for making contracts, manufacturing programs, and orders for delivery. Following ISO 9002, I established the framework and generated all the related documents. (Mix of Marketing, Finance, and Management) I prepared the local letter of credit documents and established the overall system of local sales/contracts/dispatches/account receivables/account payable/yarn rates, including any special assignment of our customers' complaints, reasons for complaints, and transmission of complaints and suggestions to the mill manager for better yarn production. To send prices to different buyers and agents, I generated a cost sheet for PC yarn.
I took responsibility as Managing Director immediately after leaving Kohinoor Spinning (2015—Today) at H Enterprises Bizhat (http://henterprises.bizhat.com). This is essentially a textile trade business. My responsibility is to lift business to its maximum potential. I began my work to turn the textile trading business into multiple small businesses after taking control of the company in 2015. So, using the assets of H Enterprises Bizhat, I established various associated businesses. Their names are:
H Real Estate deals in the real estate market in Pakistan.
H Stock Trading: Stock Market Operations in Pakistan
H Investment: deals in fixed income opportunities in Pakistan
H Portfolio Management: Deals in Asset Management in Pakistan
H Enterprises Bizhat, a textile trading company.
H.Commodity: Deals in Commodity Trading in the World by Analyzing Gold, Silver, and Oil.
I call this multi-business the H Group of Companies after the bifurcation. Now I'm looking at all the above operations. The scale of H Group is small, and the biggest achievement is that we don't owe a single penny to banks. My role models in business are Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg, Elon Musk, Warren Buffett, Robert Kiyosaki, and Jim Rogers.
The Master of Philosophy in Accounting and Finance stands as the pinnacle of academic achievement in Pakistan, given the absence of a local PhD program in finance and the unavailability of a Ph.D. in Business Administration with a focus on finance at any university. This situation compels me to explore Ph.D. opportunities overseas. Considering the exceptional educational standards abroad and my proficiency in English, I am particularly drawn to pursuing my doctoral studies in a country that offers a concentrated Ph.D. in Finance program in English. Additionally, my educational journey, spanning from grade 1 to MPhil, has been entirely in the English language, facilitating easy adaptation to the new academic environment.
